The Peace of Wild Things

img_4515“When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

There’s nothing quite like the quiet of the forest to calm an anxious spirit – for a multitude of reasons, we’ve been taking frequent long walks in the woods behind Potter Hill’s pastures lately. A friend posted this Wendell Berry poem recently that really captures my mood – clearly great minds think alike!

Sarah from Anna Banana’s Homemade Goodness now has sampler boxes for sale in the chocolate category – great to take to a holiday get together or to binge eat at home alone.  And on the box topic, Ken the cattle man has received feedback that 100 pounds of beef is like, a lot of meat. He is going to offer meat boxes of 10, 20, and 30 pounds – as always, contact him at kdionfly@nullverizon.net for details. He is still offering ground beef for sale, 2 pound packages for $14, so you can try before you buy.

Oh, and yes there are still lots of great greens, roots, and squash but this beautiful weather won’t last forever – get them while you still can!

Pickup Procedures:
Put your orders in online before 8am Monday. We’ll pick all orders fresh Monday morning and have it available for you to pick-up from 4-7pm Monday right on the farm at 64 Potter Hill Rd in Grafton. Pickups are in the big red barn on the right at the crest of the hill. Take advantage of this short window of time when the best produce around is grown in Grafton’s backyard!
